Mobile World Congress Cancelled by GSMA

The organization made this unprecedented move as over 30 companies decided to pull out, including big names such as  Amazon, Cisco, Deutsche Telekom, Ericsson, Intel, LG, Nokia, Nvidia, NTT DoCoMo, Sony, and Vodafone.

The presence of many travelers from China, and the possibility that some of them could carry the coronavirus, is the main reason for cancellations. The companies argue that they are pulling out to protect their employees, partners, and customers from potential contagion in a crowded environment.

“With due regard to the safe and healthy environment in Barcelona and the host country today, the GSMA has cancelled MWC Barcelona 2020 because the global concern regarding the coronavirus outbreak, travel concern and other circumstances, make it impossible for the GSMA to hold the event. […] The GSMA and the Host City Parties will continue to be working in unison and supporting each other for MWC Barcelona 2021 and future editions.”
