Ethical Development Takes Center Stage at Smart City Expo World Congress

Barcelona – The upcoming Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC) is poised to be a pivotal event in the global conversation on urban innovation and sustainable development. Set to take place from November 5-7 at the Gran Via venue, this year’s edition will focus on how cities can transform into more livable, equitable, and prosperous places.

With the theme “Live Better,” SCEWC 2024 will feature over 600 speakers and experts from around the world. Among them are prominent figures like Ruha Benjamin, Majora Carter, and Stephanie Hare, who will deliver keynote addresses on the ethical development of cities.

Benjamin, a renowned scholar and professor at Princeton University, brings her expertise in the intersection of race, technology, and society to the conference. Her work has shed light on how emerging technologies can exacerbate existing inequalities and perpetuate systemic injustices. At SCEWC, she will discuss the importance of ethical considerations in designing and implementing urban technologies.

Majora Carter, a leading urban revitalization strategist, will share her insights on creating sustainable and equitable communities. Known for her transformative work in the South Bronx, Carter has championed green spaces, economic development, and community engagement. Her keynote will focus on cities’ role in addressing environmental challenges and promoting social justice.

Stephanie Hare, a technology and public policy specialist, will explore the ethical implications of emerging technologies in urban settings. With a background in academia and industry, Hare has studied issues related to data privacy, surveillance, and the ethical use of artificial intelligence. She will discuss the need for policies and practices that ensure technology serves the public good and addresses social inequalities.

Beyond the keynote speakers, SCEWC 2024 will offer a comprehensive program covering a wide range of topics, ensuring that every aspect of urban innovation and sustainable development is explored.
